Is it time to get rid of performance reviews?

Earlier this year, research came to a less than startling conclusion: Nobody likes a critical job performance evaluation. “Performance reviews can affect motivation, commitment and performance, which managers should keep in mind,” says Satoris Culbertson, an assistant professor of management. “It’s not so much that performance reviews need to be abolished, but we need to fix what is broken.”

 

Are we thinking straight on mental health?

A recent survey revealed that many business leaders admitted to knowing little about the issue of mental health. Beyondblue, an Australian initiative to help depression and anxiety, has teamed with workplace health and safety agencies Safe Work Australia and Comcare to signal to managers and business leaders the many risks, some legal, that arise from ignoring the importance of employees’ psychological wellbeing.
